Why you should go to Anfield on Monday.

Liverpool U18s are playing in the fifth round of the Youth Cup on Monday night, here's how they got there.

FA Youth Cup 4TH round
Saturday 8/01/11 Liverpool 3 Crystal Palace 1 (a.e.t.)
TWO goals from half time substitute Kristjan Emilsson and a Conor Coady penalty were enough to send the reds into the next round of the Youth Cup.
Dominant throughout, the only surprise was that the youngsters first fell behind to an Ibra Sekajja strike and then needed an additional half hour to eventually ensure progress.
With Raheem Sterling on the left flank and Suso on the right, the reds repeatedly attacked with pace from the first whistle and had the Londoners pinned back for long periods.
Not even the absence of influential centre-forward Michael Ngoo through injury prevented them from immediately taking control.
Inside the opening half hour Palace’s goal was battered. Sterling hit the side-netting and brought a good save from the keeper, before Adam Morgan stabbed a low shot wide. Suso also had two efforts blocked after mesmerising runs, before Daniel Pringle almost sliced a Kristjan Adorjan cross into his own net.
After such pressure going unrewarded the Eagles, perhaps inevitably, went ahead with their very first effort attack of note.
Jack Caprice’s dangerous low cross was perfect, and Sekajja tapped in at the back post before celebrating with a spectacular summersault.
At the interval Rodolfo Borrell opted to withdraw Morgan and replaced him with Emilsson. That decision proved justified on 54 minutes.
Coady’s cross from the right was chested down by the striker who neatly finished high into the Kop net.
If the hosts imagined the rest of the afternoon would be straightforward from then on those thoughts were soon dispelled. A Tyrell Belford save at his near post led to a corner and a goalmouth scramble, which Palace somehow failed to score from.
Ryan Inniss also headed narrowly wide for the away team seconds before only a great interception from John Flanagan halted another attack. The full-back instantly charged forward and released Sterling, who brought a decent save from Charlie Mann.
Again though Palace hit back, with Ghassimu Sow having loud penalty appeals waved away.
With 13 minutes remaining Borrell made his second change of the game, and again it proved wise. Toni Silva’s introduction led to a reshuffle in attack and a final quarter of an hour of normal time that was littered with opportunities.
Coady shot wide, before Silva was off target with his head. Emilsson brought a decent save from the keeper, before only some desperate defending prevented Sterling making it 2-1.
In the last minute Silva also found himself in a one on one only to shoot straight at the keeper and then have his follow up blocked. There was also still time for Coady to power an effort past the post before the whistle that signaled extra-time.
The extra half hour resumed where the 90 minutes had concluded, with Liverpool attacking. Silva went tumbling in the box, Stephen Sama headed just wide before Emilsson almost replicated his opener by chesting down a Coady cross and shooting, only for his effort to be saved.
Finally, 13 minutes in to the half hour, the goal came. Silva picked up possession on the right before finding Emilsson with an accurate cross that the teenager nodded home.
The advantage was nearly increased minutes later as Suso’s shot was cleared off the line.
With the Anfield clock approaching the two hour mark Palace pushed more men forward and so nearly found a dramatic leveller when sub Rhys Williamson-Murrell got in behind the defence only to shoot wide.
If that moment had produced a goal a penalty shootout would surely have materialized. Instead those in attendance witnessed the day conclude with just one spot-kick; Coady sending the keeper the wrong way after Sterling had been upended.
